Calligraphy gift for Mark & Anna
This calligraphy poem was commissioned to celebrate Mark and Anna’s wedding.
The poem is ‘Leisure’ by W.H. Davies. I was familiar with the beginning, but vaguely surprised with the mentions of sheep, cows and squirrels.
The close up of the poem shows the calligraphy and hints at the swirly border with blue roses and leaves.
The gold leaf I used for the illuminated letter is 22 carat. The swirly border is made with a pointed pen and painted with calligraphy gouache.
The finished poem was then framed, very carefully packed and sent to arrive the week before Mark and Anna’s wedding day.
Sonnet 18
This unusual bespoke calligraphy commission is worth a little mention: it’s a design I’ve created once before, with green border details,an illuminated letter in silver and ivy leaves.

For this particular commission I was asked to incorporate clover and cream roses (from the wedding theme, as this was a wedding day gift). You can see these at the bottom of the calligraphy design.
The lettering is in classic italics.
Martyn’s wedding table plan
Martyn ordered a wedding table plan through the main website a week or two ago, he had his guest lists ready and I happened to have a free day in my diary, so I was very happy to make up this wedding table for him and for Suzanne in May.

The couple chose an existing table plan design from the website and adapted it to have their own table layout and pink roses (the originals were in red). The gold lettering used for the heading of this plan, and for the table names, is in gold gouache mixed with a little brown, which ‘antiques’ the colour a little and makes it a touch darker and therefore more legible on a table plan.
Hadyn’s calligraphy poem
Hadyn commissioned his calligraphy poem in April. I love to see people’s own poems, and Hadyn’s was original, different and exciting.

Hadyn’s poem was written in classic italic calligraphy, with a bold border in hot pinks, and an illuminated letter in 22 carat gold leaf. The poem was for a lady, its title was ‘Minx‘ and I suggested this very strong and very feminine design to complement his words.
